The Goldfish Are Laughing at Us

I came across a statistic last week that made me question everything I thought I knew about human evolution.

The average goldfish has an attention span of 9 seconds. The average human? 8 seconds.

We have been officially outperformed by a creature whose biggest life achievement is swimming in circles around a tiny castle. (Although some days that sounds pretty appealing.)

And that statistic is from 2015

Here is what really got me thinking. That goldfish statistic is from 2015. Which means we have had almost a decade of TikTok, Instagram Reels, and whatever chaos Elon has turned Twitter into this week.

I am genuinely afraid to see what the updated numbers look like. (We might be down to competing with fruit flies at this point.)

And yet, most business marketing is still designed for the attention spans we had in 2003. You know what I am talking about.

Those LinkedIn posts that start with a profound observation, then take 47 paragraphs to get to the point. (By paragraph three, half your audience has already ordered lunch, checked their email, and forgotten you exist.)

Email newsletters that read like academic papers. (Complete with subheadings, bullet points, and the assumption that people have nothing better to do than study your quarterly insights.)

Social media captions that explain your entire business philosophy in excruciating detail. (As if someone scrolling through their feed at 11pm is suddenly going to become deeply invested in your mission statement.)

The noise has never been louder

It is like trying to have a meaningful conversation at a heavy metal concert. You can have all the right words, but if nobody can hear you over the noise, what is the point?

And the noise has never been louder. Your content is not just competing with other businesses anymore. It is competing with cat videos, breaking news, celebrity drama, and that friend who posts way too many photos of their breakfast. (We all have that friend.)

In that environment, "professional and informative" does not cut through. It gets buried under an avalanche of everything else screaming for attention.

You need something that makes people stop mid-scroll and actually pay attention. You need the marketing equivalent of someone yelling "FREE PIZZA!" in a crowded room. (Except instead of pizza, you are offering genuine entertainment value.)

Comedy is a pattern interrupt

That is exactly what comedy does. It is not just content. It is a pattern interrupt that forces people to pause, process, and engage.

When someone laughs at your post, they are giving you something more valuable than money: their undivided attention. (Even if it is only for 8 seconds, that is still better than most goldfish.)

But here is where most businesses get stuck. They know they need to be more entertaining, but they do not know how to do it consistently without spending hours staring at a blank screen, wondering if their joke about quarterly reports will land or just make them look unprofessional.

Meet Brian

That is exactly what Brian, our AI Comedy Marketing Assistant, solves.

Brian does not just help you create content that is funny. He helps you create content that is strategically funny, designed to capture attention in that crucial 8-second window and turn it into genuine engagement. While your competitors are still whispering into the hurricane with their "professional" messaging, you will be the one with the megaphone that actually cuts through the noise.

Try Brian and start outperforming goldfish.

P.S. Unlike actual goldfish, Brian remembers what you told him yesterday, does not require feeding, and has never once swum into the glass thinking it was an exit.
