Why Your Brand Name Should Have a Personality

What makes a good brand or product name?

Personality. The names that stick feel human and hint at a character, rather than reading like a techy acronym or a made-up word bolted together in a boardroom. A good name feels like a creative partner you would want to work with, not a soulless tool, and it carries no awkward associations or negative connotations to trip over later.

The problem with most names

When we were getting ready to launch our AI tool, we hit a surprisingly hard wall: we did not have a name for it. And honestly, we struggled.

Because most tech tools get these super techy names or weird acronyms that sound like rejected Star Wars droids. They are designed to sound clever or futuristic, and they end up sounding like nothing at all. A string of capital letters is easy to forget and impossible to love.

Why personality wins

Look at how Anthropic named their AI "Claude". It sounds like that cool uncle who tells fun stories at parties. It is warm, human, a little bit characterful, and you remember it instantly.

That is the vibe worth chasing: a name that feels like a partner rather than a piece of software. Because a name is not just a label, it is the first impression of a personality. Give people a character they can picture, and they form a relationship with it. Give them an acronym, and they form nothing at all.

The tightrope of naming

Naming well is genuinely hard, and it is worth knowing why before you fall in love with your first idea.

A comedy or marketing name makes an association, and while a clever pun might not infringe on anyone's trademark, it can still go wrong in ways you did not intend. Made-up, tool-sounding names can erode trust and feel off-brand. And any name you pick has to be checked for the associations you did not plan: the unfortunate rhyme, the awkward abbreviation, the meaning in another language.

The sweet spot is a name that is distinctive and full of personality, connected to a character rather than a category, and clean of any baggage that could bite you later.

Meet Brian

We went through exactly this process ourselves, and landed on a name with a personality of his own: Brian, our AI Comedy Marketing Machine.

Brian is built to feel like a creative partner on your team, not a soulless tool, and he creates funny, high-converting ad creatives using the exact frameworks our own writers use.
