The Simple Method for Never Running Out of Content Ideas

How do you come up with endless content ideas without staring at a blank page?

Combine old ones. A new idea is simply two or more old ideas joined together. So you gather a pile of familiar things, half of them topics your audience already enjoys and half of them anything at all, then start connecting them. Do that and you can walk away with a month of content ideas in under an hour.

The one concept to understand

Here is the whole secret: a new idea is just two or more old ideas combined.

You are not inventing anything from nothing, which is the part that makes people freeze. You are remixing things that already exist. Once you believe that, idea generation stops being a mysterious talent and becomes a simple, repeatable process.

Step one: gather old ideas

Start by listing a bunch of "things". Content that has done well, both yours and your competitors'. Things you have done. Things happening at your company. Things your customers have said. Things happening in the world.

The only rule: aim for about half the list to be topics you are sure your audience enjoys, so you know the raw material is interesting. The other half can be literally anything.

Step two: make the connections

Now you combine. Say you run a pet shop. Your proven topics might include "why cats climb curtains". Your random things might be "a delivery of new cat toys on Thursday" and "I was up until 3am playing a video game".

Smash them together and you get: "The new silent toy that stops your cat climbing the curtains at 3am." Do the same with a dog bed and that Thursday delivery, and another idea appears. Each combination is a fresh post.

It quickly becomes automatic

The list-then-combine routine is really just training wheels. Do it a few times and something shifts: your brain starts making the connections on its own, without the list, as you scroll through your day.

Keep feeding it and the ideas flood in faster than you can use them. From a very short list, you can easily generate a month of content, even on a topic you barely know.

When you get stuck, question everything

If an item refuses to connect to anything, interrogate it. Next to each point, ask why, how, who and what if.

For "why cats climb curtains", ask "how do you stop them?" and "are there curtains they will not climb?". List the answers, and one of them will spark a combination. There is always another question to ask.
