The ROI of Funny: What One Joke Does to Your Funnel

How much can comedy really add to your bottom line? Take a simple funnel: 1,000 clicks, a $100 product and a $397 upsell. Run it cold and it makes about $4,191. Lift each step by a conservative 20% with humour, which is the low end of what we see, and the same 1,000 clicks make $6,285. Same traffic, roughly 50% more revenue.

The funnel without comedy

Picture 1,000 people landing on your sales page. Only 30% make it as far as the front-end offer, so 300 see it. Of those, 10% buy, giving you 30 customers. Of those 30, 10% say yes to the $397 upsell, giving you 3.

Add it up and 1,000 clicks turns into 30 new customers and $4,191 in revenue. Perfectly respectable. But look at how much traffic fell away at every step.

The same funnel with comedy

Now add humour to the copy. We have seen conversion comedy lift each of these metrics by anywhere from 20% to 200%. Let us be cautious and use 20%.

This time, 36% reach the offer, so 360 see it. 12% buy, giving you 43 customers. 12% of those take the upsell, giving you 5. From the identical 1,000 clicks, you now have 43 customers and $6,285 in revenue. Roughly 50% more money, and you did not spend a penny more on traffic.

Why humour moves every step at once

The reason the maths compounds is that a joke does not fix one number, it nudges all of them. Funny copy gets more people to start reading, keeps them reading further down the page, and puts them in a buying mood by the time they hit the offer and the upsell.

Because the lift stacks across each stage of the funnel, a small improvement per step adds up to a large improvement overall. That is why a joke in the right place pays for itself many times over.
