Why People Will Read Anything If It Is Funny

If your content is entertaining, the subject barely matters. The most common excuse for boring marketing is "our product is too boring to post about", but comedians disprove that every night by holding a room rapt on the dullest topics imaginable. Make it funny and people will happily read about anything, including a long sales page they would otherwise never finish.

The best comedians talk about nothing

Think about what stand-ups actually joke about. Everyday, trivial, deeply mundane things: the tiny bars of soap in hotels, why trouser pockets are the size they are, the strange rules of a supermarket queue. On paper, none of it is interesting.

Yet a good comedian can hold hundreds of people on exactly those subjects for an hour. The topic is not what keeps the room. The way it is delivered is. That is the whole point: interest comes from the treatment, not the subject.

Why this frees your marketing

If jokes can make hotel soap gripping, your product is not too boring. Nothing is. The belief that you have nothing interesting to say is a delivery problem dressed up as a subject problem.

That reframes the whole task. You stop hunting for a more exciting thing to talk about and start finding a more entertaining way to talk about the thing you have got. Every business has that option available, whatever it sells.

Entertainment carries even long copy

This is also why humour lets you get away with content people would normally skip. A dry seven-page sales letter sounds unreadable, but sprinkle it with lines that genuinely amuse and readers will follow it all the way to the end, because they are enjoying the ride rather than enduring the pitch.

Attention is the currency, and entertainment buys it regardless of topic. Get that right and "our niche is boring" stops being a reason your content fails.
